How to Create App Store Screenshots
Step-by-step guide to creating professional screenshots that convert browsers into users.
Your App Store screenshots are often the first impression users have of your app. Great screenshots can significantly increase your download rate. Here's how to create them.
Step 1: Plan Your Screenshots
Before capturing anything, plan which features and screens to showcase:
- Identify your app's top 5 features
- Write compelling headlines for each
- Decide on a visual style and color scheme
- Plan the order to tell a story
Step 2: Capture Your Screenshots
Take screenshots directly from your iPhone or use the iOS Simulator:
On iPhone
Press Side Button + Volume Up simultaneously
In iOS Simulator
Press Cmd + S or File → Save Screen
Step 3: Design Your Marketing Screenshots
Transform raw screenshots into marketing assets:
- Add a device frame around your screenshot
- Create an attractive background (gradient works great)
- Add a headline that highlights the benefit
- Optionally add a subtitle for more context
- Ensure text is readable and contrasts well
Step 4: Export in Correct Dimensions
Make sure your final screenshots match App Store requirements:
- iPhone 6.7": 1290 × 2796 pixels
- iPhone 6.5": 1242 × 2688 pixels
- Export as PNG for best quality
Step 5: Upload to App Store Connect
Upload your screenshots in App Store Connect under App Information → Screenshots. You can upload up to 10 screenshots per device size and localization.
